Charles Darwin and the Voyage of HMS Beagle Charles Darwin and Captain Robert FitzRoy, the commander of HMS Beagle, were accompanied on their celebrated voyage of 1831-36 by two artists paid to paint the people and places encountered. These images underpin the series of seafaring stories.
